Currently we are reaching over 1000 people annually in our classes, groups, and community events. We have been invited to be guest teachers in multiple classes in the Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools as well as local colleges. We have provided additional educational opportunities for the public (panel discussions, movie and documentary screenings, and stories of recovery) during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week every year since 2004.

We sponsored a Girl Power day (“Girls 4 Girls”) in May 2007, a prevention-focused festival to promote self-esteem and positive body image.

On August 16, 2007, T.H.E. Center for Disordered Eating hosted the Asheville Affiliates. This event promoted healthy bodies, increased awareness, and raised funds for T.H.E. Center. The theme was “Come As You Are” and was held at The Atrium/The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.

We'd like to thank our generous food and beverage sponsors who contributed to the event: a delectable spread from the 28806 Deli Bakery Caterers, beer from Catawba Valley Brewing, and wine from Barefoot Wine.

Entertainment/activities featured belly dancing, hula hooping, photo alteration as an example of how media can manipulate one's image, a history of changing beauty ideals, a local d.j, and a raffle and silent auction with items from local artists and businesses. All proceeds benefited T.H.E. Center.

The Asheville Affiliates are 3000+ young professionals invited to attend four annual fund raising events hosted by and supporting Asheville area non-profit organizations.
